Safer Consumer Products Summit to Feature EPA’s Jim Jones, California DTSC’s Meredith Williams
The 4th Safer Consumer Products Summit, the only national conference of its kind, will provide the most up-to-date information available on California’s implementation of the Safer Consumer Products Regulations (SCPR), the most expansive Green Chemistry law in the world, drill down on the rapidly evolving state and international consumer safety regulatory landscape, and discuss the latest developments in legislative efforts to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act.
Jim Jones, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Assistant Administrator, Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, will be one of the keynote speakers. Mr. Jones will provide an update on EPA’s Chemical Management Program. Meredith Williams, Deputy Director, Safer Products and Workplaces Program of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), will give a keynote address on candidate chemicals, priority products, and the next phases of California’s SCPR.
The summit, to be held May 7-8 in Santa Clara, California, will also bring together nationally recognized consumer brands, manufacturers, retailers, and green chemistry experts to respond to the regulations with in-depth discussion on what actions are necessary to thrive in this new era of consumer goods. Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) is a proud sponsor. Lynn L. Bergeson will serve as chairperson of the summit and will moderate a panel discussion on “Federal, State, Local and International Consumer Products Regulatory Efforts.”
On May 6, there will be a pre-summit workshop on “Safer Alternatives to Priority Chemicals.” The workshop is intended as a very practical, hands-on exercise for attendees and will feature sessions on “Alternatives Assessment: Bio-Based & Sustainable Chemicals,” “Phthalates, Alternative Plasticizers, Endocrine Disruptors,” and “Sustainable Home & Personal Care Products.”
